Fusion has just done the impossible. Not only has it been used in over 1000 major Hollywood films and academy award winners, but now, for the first time ever, you can get it for free! In celebration of this incredible news, we're preparing tons of new Fusion training for all of you, and we'll have training for the highly anticipated OS X and Linux versions. We're going to start things off by taking a look into Black Magic's new Fusion 7.5 with our new Fusion Earth video featuring mentor Terry Riyasat. Terry will show you how to create a "zoom out" effect that starts at Earth and zooms out to space using Fusion's powerful 2D and 3D space capabilities. This type of shot is widely used in film and television and is great for getting a jump start into fusion so you can understand how to take advantage of what it has to offer. If you don't already have it, you can download Fusion from our newest vendor partners at Blackmagic Design. cmiVFX has been long-term partners with the Fusion family since 2003. Introduction
This video will explore Black Magic's Fusion 7.5. We'll be creating a multilayered, photo-realistic version of Earth and we'll use this to create a zoom effect that goes from Earth to space.
Project Overview
The overview will explain the assets necessary for our project and set up the correct preferences and settings for our uses throughout the tutorial. We will begin to layout all of the images that the zoom will be comprised of and we will discuss the basic approach for achieving this effect.
Creating the Zoom
In this chapter we will continue to build up our effect and get a feel for how many magnification levels are needed. We will finish off this effect and put it aside as an asset that will be used along with the earth.
Creating the world
Let's start creating Earth! We will explore fusion's 3D space and you will learn multiple techniques that will help you map the several layers needed to achieve this. We will have a look at the various shaders that Fusion has to offer, as well as a way to light the earth within the 3D space.
Animation
During this Chapter we will set up our camera for the Earth and block out the movement we want to achieve with focus on timing for our shot. We'll rough in the movement by using a precomp of our zoom, we'll fine-tune the animation, and commit to render.
Grading and Finishing our Shot
Let's explore the color correction for our shot. We will come up with a style for the overall look as well as adding additional lens and camera effects to the shot.
